Craig Duke, a pastor in Evansville, Indiana, didn’t think that participating in an HBO project would cost him his job. But by participating in the casting of the documentary series “We’re Here”, in which he disguised himself as a drag queen, he was released from his pastoral duties by the Methodist Church.

The Church Man did it to support the LGBTQ + community and his daughter, who recently came out pansexual. According to the Daily Mail, the man hoped to “build a bridge” between the congregation and the Church by attending. He also wanted to show that religion can be fully inclusive by welcoming people of all races, genders and sexual orientations.

However, this did not please his employer, who wrote a letter to his followers, in which he stated that Craig Duke had “sown trouble” and must henceforth embark on a “process of renewal and reflection”.

Before the episode aired, the pastor told the local media that it was “a wonderful, refreshing, deep and powerful spiritual experience.”

Today, in addition to losing their jobs, the pastor and his wife must also leave their Church-owned home. A GoFundMe page was created to raise funds for him and his family.
