And four! Panasonic announces the arrival of a new lens for its full-frame hybrids, the Lumix S 35mm f / 1.8. The brand is thus fulfilling its promise to develop its fleet of lenses, with a fourth lens with f / 1.8 aperture. From the L-mount system, this 35mm follows the successive announcements of the Lumix S 85mm f / 1.8, the Lumix S 50mm f / 1.8 and the Lumix S 24mm f / 1.8. The latter was presented at the start of the school year by the brand, which then told us that it wanted to have a range of light, bright and compact lenses in L mount.
The Lumix S 35 mm F1.8 meets the specifications and shares characteristics with the 85, 50 and 24 mm previously unveiled. Semi-wide-angle, its optical construction is based on 11 elements divided into nine groups including three aspherical lenses and three ED lenses. The focusing distance is 0.24 mm, which can be interesting with this fixed focal length. The 35 mm is indeed versatile and Panasonic is not mistaken in asserting that its lens “Also suitable for landscapes and portraits”.

In addition to photography, the Lumix S 35mm f / 1.8 is comfortable in video, thanks in particular to an autofocus control at 240 fps, a mechanism for removing focus-breathing or even a control of the micro-step opening. The lens also benefits from a tropicalized design that allows it to be used down to -10 ° C. It is also intended to be light (with a weight of around 295 g) and compact (around 82 mm).
A quartet with many points in common
The Lumix S 35mm f / 1.8 wide-angle lens therefore allows Panasonic to complete its range of f / 1.8 aperture lenses. The 50mm, 85mm telephoto and 24mm super wide-angle not only share the same maximum aperture, but the same 67mm filter pitch, with almost similar dimensions and above all the same button position. The brand wants to facilitate their use and the transition from one lens to another, in particular with a compact hybrid like the Panasonic Lumix S5.

A tariff for the 35 mm and ultra-wide angle in the pipes
While we thought that the range was finally complete with the release of the Lumix S 35mm f / 1.8, the company will continue to develop its series. Indeed, Panasonic confirms the development of a new 18mm ultra wide-angle fixed focal length lens with f / 1.8 aperture.
The manufacturer specifies that its Lumix S 35mm f / 1.8 (S-S35E) arrives in France this November, at a price of 679 euros.
An update for the Lumix GH5 II
Panasonic also took advantage of this announcement to discuss the arrival of a new firmware update for the Lumix GH5 II. The device will upgrade to version 1.1 from November 30 and will benefit from improved streaming performance (up to 4K) and new functions.
