Apple: the 27-inch iMac would opt for a mini-LED panel with ProMotion technology

The future large iMac should ship a mini-LED panel with ProMotion, like the new MacBook Pro. The all-in-one computer, on the other hand, would retain its 27-inch format.

The iMac range was quick to opt for the Silicon M1 chip designed by Apple. The Cupertino-based all-in-one computer followed the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, getting a major overhaul. The big iMac would be next on the list to benefit from the brand’s latest additions, as Ross Young explains (via MacRumors). After an error in judgment, the Display Supply Chain expert confirmed on Twitter that Tim Cook’s company should very soon offer a new iMac equipped with a 27-inch screen.

OK, tweeted too early. The 27 “MiniLED screen is going in an iMac in Q1’22, not an external monitor. May see a monitor later. Still 24Hz – 120Hz variable refresh… Sorry for the confusion!

This model would arrive as early as the first quarter of 2022 and would adopt the same technologies as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the new MacBook Pros, namely the mini-LED display and ProMotion. The future iMac should therefore carry a Liquid Retina XDR panel capable of varying its refresh rate from 24 to 120 Hz. A strong decision on the part of Apple, which has just launched its new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

On the other hand, we do not know which chip will equip the famous computer or what place it will occupy within the range. The manufacturer could be tempted to bet on the top of the range by offering a new design for its 27-inch model. Last year, the iMac M1 had greatly evolved to offer new colors and thinner borders. While the definition of the screen is not known, the main surprise could ultimately be the decision to keep a 27-inch screen.

Some rumors saw the high-end iMac go 30 or 32 inches, following in the footsteps of its little brother. The latest iMac redesign last May saw M1 models go from 21.5 to 24 inches. As it stands, some credit can be given to Ross Young’s predictions. A recognized analyst, he is generally well informed when it comes to discussing the screens of the future Apple brand products.
