During its keynote, Apple announced the arrival of three new colors for the HomePod mini. A new Apple Music offering was also presented.
Presented for the first time at the end of 2020, the HomePod Mini immediately overshadowed its predecessor, the classic HomePod, which definitively gave up its place on the market in March 2021. A little on the sidelines of the much awaited announcements concerning the new MacBooks, M1 Pro and M1 Max chips and AirPods 3, Apple has unveiled the new colors of its speaker. Its HomePod mini is adorned with three new colors (orange, yellow and blue) and the American firm pushes the coquetry to match the color of the power cable to that of the speaker. They are added to the original ones: space gray and white.
An identical technical sheet
The technical characteristics do not change. HomePod mini always plays 360 ° sound with the ability to pair multiple speakers to enjoy multiroom sound using the AirPlay app. The speaker benefits from Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connectivity, 802.11n wifi as well as a UWB chip capable of detecting nearby devices. The speaker is always powered by a 20 W mains adapter, supplied by the manufacturer.
In terms of software, the speaker is designed to communicate with the entire ecosystem of the Apple brand. It will soon benefit from some notable improvements such as improved multi-user voice recognition, an optimized audio experience on Apple TV 4K and some new features for controlling home automation devices.
The new HomePod Mini does not change price and will be available in November in 17 countries (including France) at 99 euros.
A new Apple Music offer
This announcement concerning the HomePod mini does not modify the plans of the Apple, but remember that one of the characteristics of the speaker is the possibility of having access to a catalog of music of more than 90 million songs. The paid service Apple Music is at the heart of the strategy of the American firm and this is where the interest of Apple’s announcement during the keynote lies. In addition to talking about its connected speaker, the Californian firm has announced a new low-cost subscription. Launched at 4.99 euros per month, this offer is half the cost of the premium formula and provides access to the entire catalog of the service. However, it comes with some concessions and involves going through the voice assistant Siri to access his music. Called Apple Music Voice, the subscription is accessible by saying “Hey Siri, start my Apple Music Voice trial period” or through the app. Subsequently, it will be necessary to use the voice command to launch a song or a playlist.

In addition, this affordable price does not allow access to spatial audio with Dolby Atmos and lossless quality. It is also necessary to make a cross on the downloading of the songs for an offline listening. It is of course possible to unlock all the features by opting for the premium subscription at the monthly rate of 9.99 euros (Individual) or family at 14.99 euros per month (up to 6 accounts).
