After presenting the iPhone 13, Apple makes an appointment on October 18 for a new “special event”. The Cupertino company is expected to announce new products, including MacBook Pros and a new home chip.
“Hang in there,” Apple says on the invitation card for its next keynote. The Cupertino company sets the tone for its new “special event” which will take place on Monday, October 18 at 7 p.m. (Paris time), still without an audience. In recent months, Tim Cook and his teams have become accustomed to offering a recorded conference from Apple Park in Cupertino. A few weeks after the announcement of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro , as well as the iPad mini or the Apple Watch Series 7 , Apple has some ideas.
This meeting, with false airs of Star Wars hyperspace , should be placed under the sign of performance and Macs. Absent from the back-to-school keynote, computers hit by an apple are experiencing a real revolution with the transition to ARM. Started last year with the announcement of the M1 chip, it currently concerns the ultraportable MacBook Air, the Mac mini and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Even the iPad Pro has taken the leap by equipping itself with this SoC.
New MacBook Pros and a more powerful home chip are expected
For its professional machines, Cupertino had planned to take its time and we can expect the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro to usher in an evolution of the M1 chip. The latter could be called M1X (or M2) to stand out and replace the Intel Core i7 and Core i9. It would have 10 cores (eight high performance cores and two low consumption cores) and a 16 or 32 core GPU depending on the version. By way of comparison, the SoC M1 has eight cores (four high performance and four low consumption) and a graphics part with seven or eight cores. A performance gain is therefore expected and it is not excluded that the most powerful Mac mini or the iMac will benefit from this new chip. In contrast, the Mac Pro is unlikely to make this list.
The evolution of the M1 chip is not the only novelty hoped for and the latest rumors point to the arrival of a mini-LED screen for the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Announcements around MacBooks should also be an opportunity for Apple to discuss the final version of macOS Monterey .
Note that this event will take place the day before the presentation of the new Google Pixels . We will be mobilized to make you discover all the novelties of the brand with the apple.
